Kamari

Kamari is a typical summer resort in Santorini, located in a distance of 10km south-east of Fira. Unlike the usual, Kamari is inhabited all the year round.  It was completely rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake and has developed in an amazing rate. Close to Kamari you will find the archaeological site of ancient Thera. Also of great importance is the most famous church of the island, the church of Panagia Episkopi built in 1100 (This is where the celebrations of August 15th for the Virgin Mary takes place every year, with a large festival open to everyone).

The black sandy beach that extends all the way to Monolithos, at least two kilometres in length is the main attraction of Kamari. The beach is fully organised lined with umbrellas and sun beds, while water sports and diving facilities are also available. On the beachfront you may find hotels, restaurants, bars and many shops to cover all tastes and budgets.

The general landscape is very attractive: the impressive black sandy beach is characterized by an enormous rock called Mesa Vouno that rises from the sea. By night the scenery becomes even more beautiful as the rock is lighted.

When the night arrives, bars and dance clubs are the right place to go for top class entertainment with Greek and international music hits. Kamari is an alternative choice of entertainment on the island, offering quality and calmness.

From Kamari, you can take a caique, the traditional small fishing boat, to visit the isle of Anafi. You can also take a caique to reach the beach of Perissa. The town is connected with frequent bus service from Fira.
